The Last Stop Before Pennsylvania

Heavy Duty Towing in Hubbard happens close to a state line. Hubbard is a Trumbull County city of 7,636 people (2020 census) in the Youngstown-Warren area, and I-80 crosses into Pennsylvania in Hubbard Township. For long-haul drivers, that makes it the first or last Ohio stop on a very busy interstate. Call (330) 542-5961 and tell us the state you are standing in.

I-80 at the border

I-80 passes through Austintown, Girard and Hubbard Township before crossing into Pennsylvania south of Sharon, at about mile 237.28. Exit 234 is US 62 and SR 7, signed for Hubbard and Sharon, Pennsylvania. Per the route description, the Ohio portion of I-80 is 237.48 miles long, so Hubbard is the very end of it. Commercial development sits at the I-80 and SR 7 interchange.

If you break down near the line, say which side you are on. Ohio and Pennsylvania are different states, with different state police posts and different DOT contacts. Dispatch needs to know which one we are working with.

A long gap between exits

The I-80 route table lists exit 229 at about mile 229 and exit 234 at mile 234.43, with no exits listed between them. That is a gap of roughly five miles, so a truck stopped on that stretch has no ramp close by. A mile marker or the last exit you passed is the most useful thing you can tell us. Give us your direction too, since eastbound and westbound shoulders are far apart.

Surface roads

In Hubbard, US 62 has a short SR 304 concurrency through the town center. The SR 7 concurrency ends north of I-80. SR 616 ends at a signalized intersection in Hubbard, where US 62, SR 7 and SR 304 run together. SR 82 ends at a cloverleaf with US 62 and the Hubbard-Masury Road in Masury, just before the state line. Tell us whether you are on the interstate, on a ramp, or on one of these surface roads.

City and township

Hubbard Township was established around 1806 and is named after Nehemiah Hubbard Jr., an agent of the Connecticut Land Company. It is the only Hubbard Township in Ohio. The first settler, Samuel Tylee, arrived in 1801. A post office called Hubbard opened in 1826, and the village was incorporated in 1868 with Nathaniel Mitchell as first mayor. Local coal and iron industries rapidly grew the town after 1861. The township had 12,969 residents in 2020 and borders Hermitage and Shenango Township in Pennsylvania.

Calls near the line

  • Tractor-trailers with brake, tire or engine trouble on I-80
  • Out-of-state trucks whose drivers do not know the area
  • Loaded trucks that need to be reloaded or transloaded
  • Box trucks and buses on US 62 and SR 7
  • Equipment haulers heading to jobs on either side of the line

We use heavy wreckers and underlifts for the tow, and a service truck for tires or fuel when that is all it takes.

What to have ready
