Frequently Asked Questions

Heavy Duty Towing Questions

How much does heavy duty towing cost in Youngstown?

Published rate sheets from other jurisdictions show a heavy tow hook-up around $450 plus $9.50 to $10 per mile, and recovery with a heavy wrecker at roughly $350 to $850 per hour. Distance, load, scene and time of day change the total. We give you a written invoice estimate.

What do I need to tell the dispatcher?

Your exact location (interstate, direction, mile marker or exit), the unit type and weight class, whether it is loaded and with what, what is wrong, and who is paying. If the load is hazmat, say so right away.

Can you tow a loaded semi, or does it have to be unloaded first?

Many loaded semis can be towed as they are, depending on weight, damage and where the unit sits. After a crash or rollover, the load may need to be transferred first. The dispatcher will ask about the load before sending equipment.

Do you handle crashes on I-80 and I-680?

Yes. Accident recovery on the interstates is part of the work, including winching, uprighting, load transfer and clearing debris. Police may control the scene, and we follow their direction.

How fast can you get to me?

It depends on where you are, traffic, weather and what is already on the schedule. The dispatcher gives you an honest arrival estimate on the call and updates you if it changes.

Can you tow a bus or an RV?

Yes. Motorcoaches, school buses, motorhomes and fifth wheels are heavy, tall and often damaged by a hard tow. We use the right method for each and ask about weight, length and any passengers on board.

Heavy Duty Towing Questions

What counts as heavy duty towing?

Generally, units in the heavy weight classes: loaded tractor-trailers, dump trucks, buses, tankers and large equipment. Medium duty is for box trucks and smaller straight trucks.

Often yes, depending on weight, damage and location. After a crash, the cargo may need to be transferred first. The dispatcher will tell you.

Do you need to know the weight?

An approximate weight class and load type is enough. Axle count and whether it is a tractor, trailer or straight truck helps.

Can you tow to a shop of my choice?

Yes. Tell the dispatcher where it is going. We can also take it to our storage yard.

Semi Truck Towing Questions

Can you tow my trailer without the tractor?

Yes, with a wrecker or road tractor, depending on the trailer type and load.

My brakes are locked. Can you still tow?

Usually yes. The unit may need to be lifted, or air supplied, or the brakes released another way.

Do you tow to a truck stop?

We tow to wherever you choose: a shop, a truck stop, your yard or ours.

What if the load is perishable?

Tell the dispatcher at once. Cargo transfer or a faster tow may be needed.

Accident Cleanup & Recovery Questions

Who pays for accident recovery?

Often the carrier or insurer, sometimes the driver. Tell the dispatcher who is responsible so billing is right.

Can you handle hazmat spills?

Will you move my cargo?

We can transfer cargo to another trailer when the carrier and shipper approve and the scene allows.

Yes. Tell the dispatcher where you want the unit to go. If it goes to our yard, storage is charged per day.
